She rises before anyone else in the house
to feed the pets
start the coffee
pack the lunches
and make sure that everyone else gets up
and ready and out the door.

Someone once said, “Whatever you give her, she transforms.”
Give her a house, and she gives you a home.
Give her flour, and she gives you bread.
Give her affection, and she gives you devotion.
Give her seeds, and she gives you a garden.
Give her another kind of seed, and she gives you life.

Even in this modern world, we are all born of a woman.
No matter what happened after, for months, she carried you inside her
Using her cells to develop your cells
And sacrificing her body to bring yours to life.

Can there be anything more powerful than that? Than transforming what she’s given into something worth so much more?
The power of a woman is not found in her appearance, traits, or body. Not really. The power of a woman exists in her soul.

It cannot be contained.
It cannot be eliminated.
Your words and actions can dim her power, but you cannot stop it from being. You cannot stop it from existing within her.
The power of a woman is infinite. The power of a woman is creation. The power of a woman is life.

Happy International Women’s Day! I wrote this short prose poem to celebrate all the mighty women living worldwide. Today is our day. Rise up, and step into your power!
